Reiki Available at The Amputee Center

“Reiki” (pronounced ray-key) refers to both a practice and a very high-vibration energy. The practice originated in Japan in the late 1800s and was introduced to America in the 1950s. The literal meaning of the word can be broken into two parts, Rei meaning “The Higher Power” and Ki meaning “life force energy”. Reiki practitioners have been attuned to this high vibration energy. During Reiki sessions, they act as a conduit and channel this beautiful and powerfully creative and restorative energy into their clients’ bodies. This energy positively affects not just the physical body, but also the energetic layers and pathways that comprise the clients’ whole Being. Clients’ energies are soothed and unblocked, allowing life-giving and healing energy to flow freely again. Typically, clients experience feelings of relief, lightness and happiness, restful sleep, and a reduction in chronic pain.

I understand Reiki energy to be the energy of Unconditional Love – the energy that created you and me, the world and everything else in it. It is the very essence of our Being, the energy that brings us breath, and health and happiness. When we are in the flow of this powerful energy, our heart and soul are happy and peaceful, and our life experience is good, at times even wonderful. But when this energy is stagnant anywhere in our Being, possibly blocked by unreleased emotions or physical trauma, we experience physical discomfort, pain or disease, mental or emotional turmoil or numbness. Our body’s natural abilities to heal itself become compromised, our outlook on life is dreary, we don’t see the beauty that surrounds us. We often shut ourselves off from the world and close our hearts. When we are not open to receive the good things that life can bring, we can easily find ourselves in a downward spiral from which it is difficult to recover.

Reiki offers a path to recovery and healing by opening us back up to Love, to life, to happiness. Reiki reminds us that we always have a choice in life, to live it as fully as we can, regardless of our current life situation. We CAN choose to love life, we CAN choose to see and accept the blessings that come our way, we CAN be grateful for the wonderful things that we have. When we accept Love, our bodies respond by feeling good. When we feel good, we see beauty and kindness and feel love that comes to us through others, and we respond by sending more love out to the world. It’s a beautiful life-affirming cycle that I feel so privileged to support through the Amputee Center.

Reiki is not medical or psychological intervention. I do not counsel or give medical advice. Reiki does not interfere negatively with medication or medical treatment. In fact, the opposite has often been reported. There are studies showing that combining Reiki with conventional treatments tends to enhance their effectiveness, reduce reliance on pain medication and speed up the body’s healing process after injury and surgery.

Reiki is not a religion, belief, or philosophy. Reiki cannot conflict with any religion that has Divine Love as its core belief and mandate. Reiki is the energy of Love itself. It is the substance on which all true religions are based, but it is not restricted by dogma. It is not necessary to believe in Reiki or hold a particular mindset or thought about it. Reiki doesn’t discriminate or judge. It doesn’t matter what you’ve done or not done in the past, what your issues are or what you think or believe about yourself. Reiki simply reconnects us – anyone – to our true Divine energetic nature, which is always perfect, beautiful, infinitely loved, and deserving of complete health and happiness. Reiki brings us to the exact state needed for healing on every level, for any issue.
